XML KL: Animation & Games – an official part of the Kre8tif! Festival

The Lab: 18th – 19th December

Twelve of Malaysia’s most innovative animation and games companies will have the opportunity to be mentored by some of the biggest names in the digital content industries as part of XML KL: “Animation & Games” two-day Lab. The selected teams were chosen for their creativity, innovation, storytelling and commercialisation potential.

In announcing the twelve projects with official partner, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), Brendan Harkin, Director of X|Media|Lab said “Kre8tif! is establishing itself as the premier creative industries event for regional and international players to meet, learn from each other, and to do business together – and the two-days of XML KL enables participants to do just that!”

Kamil Othman, Vice President and Head of Creative Multimedia Department, MDeC said “The partnership between MDeC and XML is all about assisting Malaysian companies increase their chances of achieving international success. This is a giant opportunity for each of these companies to be mentored one-on-one by some of the world’s best.”

XML KL participants will have the opportunity to receive creative, technological and business mentoring from:

The twelve Malaysian projects selected to be part of XML KL include:

BigBeak Pictures Sdn. Bhd. – environmental champions and one of one of Malaysia’s busiest animation & live-action production houses will bring their TV puppet show Chummy and Champ to the next level of transmedia experience.

Eden Studios Sdn. Bhd. – this award-winning team of animators are developing Candy Coated Bounty Hunter - an action-packed comedy for Kids TV.

LG Games Development Inc. (LCGDI) – the games engine of Les’ Copaque Productions are developing the interactive version of Laksamana Upin & Ipin for your mobile and PC to co-incide with the much anticipated 3D film release.

Tripod Entertainment Sdn. Bhd. – a hybrid of traditional 2D and 3D animation, Zoorocoo tells the story of how an ordinary teenage boy is caught in an alien trap and accidentally transported to a giant planet a million light years from Earth.

Terato Sdn. Bhd. – one of Malaysia’s most successful developers for the iPhone are taking their top iPhone game Qalvinius to the next level.

E-One Studios Sdn, Bhd. – are developing a story-driven 3D action adventure game about how a young woman’s journey to heal her father becomes a journey of self discovery and hope for an entire web of life.

Avant Garde Studios Sdn. Bhd. – a 2D animated HD TV series featuring a crime-fighting Ninja Cat detective, who works in a Japanese restaurant in a city where crime and karaoke bars never sleep.

Addeen Multimedia Sdn. Bhd. – this group of seasoned animation veterans are producing a 3D animated TV series for kids between 8 and 12 years old.

Backbone Entertainment Sdn. Bhd. – a company renowned for rocking the world with refreshing ideas, are developing the action comedy Jinggo – featuring a sharp shooter from the country’s Special Force Team who is totally clueless and stumbles through any case he’s given.

Ed-Online Technologies Sdn. Bhd. – a provider of interactive courseware for Malaysia’s Education curriculum, Ed-Online have branched out into entertainment and their own IP and are developing their third TV series with co-producers in the UK and Singapore.

Adamant Productions – a group of independent filmmakers, including the award winning Suleimen Brothers (Rojak), are developing their first 3D feature film – a sci-fi odyssey.

Oscar Hallmark Sdn. Bhd. – Ke Zoo is a 23 minute x 12 episode animated TV series assisting children understand how morality and friendship can help us overcome anything!

XML KL: “Animation & Games” will be held at the Pullman Lakeside Hotel in Putrajaya on 18th and 19th December. The XML International Mentors are all International Speakers at Kre8tif! 15th – 17th December.
